Ten thousand deviations later...

I'm still amazed at how much creativity there is here on DeviantART. I just went through 10,000 deviations on my watch-list and although it took me forever to go through them, I'm glad I did! It gave me the spark I've been waiting for.

Looking at my latest submission (October 11, 2007), I realise I've been 'away' for almost two years. I haven't stopped taking photos since, but for some reason they have all ended up gathering dust on my hard drive. I've been lacking motivation to go through them let alone publish any of them on the net. Tagging them is probably the most time consuming thing I can think of, but in small dozes it should be doable. Problem is, I've got about 20,000 photos to go through (over 100GB) and that's not even counting the stuff I've taken on my PowerShot S80/G7!

Having seen all the wonderful works people have published over the summer, I've finally snapped out of my coma and started getting my act together.

A few weeks back I went through a dozen different photo management programs, but only one of them stood out: Adobe Lightroom. It's got everything a photographer would dream of, with the exception of actually retouching the photos (that's what Photoshop is for!).

I've already got some requests concerning my existing photos (bigger sizes, better quality), so I think I'll start with those. Everything I publish will be shared with a Creative Commons license here on DeviantART and Flickr so you can use them to your heart's content.

Arctic Circle

I just returned from a trip to the Arctic Circle and I have to admit I was quite overwhelmed with the beautiful scenery Finland has to offer. It had been a while since I had experienced a proper winter and I'd say -24'C falls into that category! Having returned back to Helsinki, those breathtaking snowy landscapes seem like a fading dream. Although we do have snow here as well, it is far from being as white and pure as I experienced during my stay in Kittilä. Hopefully this will become one of those trips I do once a year since it was only a 12 hour train ride away!

Xmas in Africa vol 2.

I just returned from a trip to Ethiopia and Tanzania, bringing along over 32GB worth of pictures. I'm quite astonished myself at some of the stuff I took and look forward sharing these with you shortly. Expect a brand new African Exposure series featuring lots of cool animals and scenes from far away places!

I once again fled the cold winter of Finland to the nice sunny continent of Africa. I can't tell you how good of an idea that was. From now on I think i'll make this a tradition.

It'll take me some time for me to go through all the pictures I took, but I can already tell you that this will probably have as many as the previous three combined. Gotta love the digital age :D

In the meantime, I've also uploaded lots of material to my flickr account and look forward releasing more stuff from 2006-2008. These are all released under a creative commons license, so feel free to use them!

A taste of things to come =p

I still have a few hundred photos in the pipeline and many more which I haven't even had the time to look at yet.

I have to admit this digital stuff is just crazy. I was  looking at the running number which my camera has and I'm over 5000 already. If that counter started at zero or even a thousand, that's a hell of a lot of pictures - not to mention my other camera. Normally, I wouldn't have taken this many on film or else I would have been bankroupt by now :D But it seems times have changed. Now the challenge is to find the time to go through all of these.

Anyway, just a heads up. Feel free to add me as a contact on Flickr or use those pictures in your own work. As soon as I'm done with the rest of these, I'll start submitting stuff on DA.
